Isuzu Commercial Truck of America Celebrates 40 Years

Isuzu Commercial Truck of America is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Isuzu trucks in the U.S. market. Originally known as Isuzu Truck of America, the company was founded on March 16, 1984.

It all started with the first Isuzu truck, the KS22, to the United States in November 1984. This 87-horsepower truck quickly gained popularity among American truck buyers for its durability, efficiency, capability, and low cost of ownership. Just a year later, in 1986, Isuzu became the best-selling low-cab-forward truck in the United States, a title it has held for 37 consecutive years. Today, Isuzu commands nearly 80% of the U.S. low cab forward truck sales.

Shaun Skinner, President of Isuzu Commercial Truck of America and Isuzu Commercial Truck of Canada, thanked supporters and highlighted the contributions of four long-standing Isuzu dealerships:

  1. Green Isuzu Truck, Greensboro, NC

  2. Midway Isuzu Truck Center, Phoenix, AZ

  3. Pierre Isuzu Trucks of Everett, Everett, WA

  4. Chapman Isuzu, Tempe, AZ

Isuzu's product lineup plays a big role in its success. The current medium-duty truck lineup includes Class 3, 4, and 5 N-Series models powered by a 6.6L gasoline V-8, Class 4 and 5 N-Series trucks featuring Isuzu’s 4HK1-TC turbo diesel, and Class 6 and 7 F-Series models with a Cummins B6.7 diesel.

In the first half of 2024, Isuzu will introduce its first all-electric production model, the 2025 Class 5 NRR EV, in the U.S. and Canadian markets. This electric truck will have a full 19,500-pound gross vehicle weight rating, Isuzu's battery-electric platform, and a new cab design.

Isuzu's journey is filled with milestones, from building Japan's first bus in 1929 to becoming a leader in the medium-duty truck market. As Isuzu celebrates 40 years in the U.S. market, it remains focused on delivering quality trucks and driving toward a bright future.
